"Gang sheet" comes up a lot in DTF printing, and it confuses a lot of first-time buyers because it sounds like it might be required. It isn't — it's just a different way of buying and pressing transfers, with its own trade-offs.

What's a Gang Sheet?

A gang sheet is one large printed sheet with multiple designs "ganged" together on it — sometimes a dozen or more, arranged edge to edge to use the film efficiently. Whoever presses them has to cut each design out of the sheet by hand before pressing, using scissors or a rotary cutter, then press each piece individually anyway.

What's a Ready-to-Press Individual Transfer?

When a Gang Sheet Makes Sense

  • You're pressing a high volume of mixed designs in one session and want to minimize film waste
  • You already have a workflow (and the time) for laying out, printing, and cutting sheets
  • You're running a print shop rather than pressing shirts for personal or small-batch use

When Individual Transfers Make Sense

  • You want one design, or a handful of designs, without cutting anything yourself
  • You're making a small batch — a class set of shirts, a family reunion order, a few gifts
  • You value your time more than the small per-unit savings a gang sheet can offer at high volume

Cost, Realistically

Gang sheets can look cheaper per square inch on paper, but that math only pays off at real volume, and it doesn't account for your own cutting time or the waste from mis-cuts.
