Cozy Purple Reading Nook Inspiration for Book Lovers
Juanita GruberThere’s something about a cozy reading nook that makes life feel a little softer.
As a mom of 7, quiet moments are pretty rare around here. That's probably why I've started appreciating cozy little corners in my home so much lately. Not the perfectly styled magazine rooms. Just spaces that feel calm after a long day of motherhood, business, laundry, and everything else life throws at us.
And honestly? A comfy chair, soft lighting, and a stack of books can completely change the mood of a room.
Now before anyone asks... no, I do not actually own this exact chair yet. 😂
But this?
This is absolutely my dream reading nook chair.
If you love deep purple decor, cozy textures, soft lighting, and bookish vibes, here's some dreamy reading nook inspiration to help you create your own little escape at home.
The Cozy Oversized Lounge Chair
The chair is honestly the heart of the entire space.
Oversized lounge chairs instantly make a reading nook feel more inviting and comfortable, especially when paired with soft textured fabrics like corduroy or velvet.
I love the deep black corduroy look here because it balances out all the purple tones while still keeping the space cozy and dramatic.
The oversized shape, the deep cushions, the dark corduroy texture... it looks like the kind of chair you sink into with a cup of coffee and a good book and suddenly lose track of time. The kind where you tell yourself you're only going to read one chapter and somehow it's two hours later.
Honestly, I think what I love most about this chair is that it feels lived in. Not perfectly staged. Not the kind of furniture you're afraid to touch. The kind of chair that actually gets used.
The kind of chair where books pile up beside it, blankets stay thrown over the side, and coffee cups accidentally live there all day.
What Makes This Style Work
- Oversized shape for comfort
- Deep seating perfect for reading
- Textured fabric for warmth
- Neutral black balances bold decor
Add a chunky knit blanket and oversized pillows and suddenly the entire corner feels like a cozy little retreat.
Purple Sequin Backdrop Wall
This might honestly be my favorite part.
And funny enough... this is actually something I already use in real life. 😂
When I originally bought the purple sequin backdrop, it wasn't for a reading nook at all. My plan was to use it to hide my living room background when taking photos and creating content.
Well... that didn't exactly work out.
The backdrop arrived, and I quickly realized it was much more see-through than I expected. So my grand plan of hiding the entire living room disappeared pretty fast. 😆
Instead of giving up on it, I started using it as a photo backdrop for product photos. If you've seen any of my tumbler photos, product displays, or content photos over the years, there's a good chance that purple sequin backdrop made an appearance somewhere in the background.
Then we moved into our 7-bedroom house, and somehow the backdrop found a new purpose yet again.
Now it hangs behind my reading nook and office area, where it still doubles as a photography backdrop whenever I need it. It's one of those things that didn't work the way I originally planned but ended up working out even better in the long run.
The purple sequin backdrop mixed with the purple tablecloth layered behind the chair gives that cozy dramatic look without needing paint at all.
As a renter, I've become a big fan of using fabric, backdrops, and temporary decor to create accent walls without making permanent changes. It completely changes the feel of the room while still being renter-friendly.
The Purple Tree Bookshelf
Can we talk about how perfect this bookshelf is for small spaces?
What makes this shelf even funnier is that I don't actually own a huge collection of physical books.
Most of my reading happens on my Kindle these days. Between kids, business, and life in general, it's just easier. Plus, the fewer physical books I have sitting around, the fewer opportunities little hands have to accidentally damage them. 😆
The books I do own tend to be the ones I absolutely love.
For years, my Harry Potter series and Twilight books sat in storage waiting for a place where I could finally display them. Once we moved into our larger home, I finally had room to create a dedicated reading corner and give those books a proper home.
Then Fourth Wing happened.
Now I've officially started collecting physical books again because some stories are just too good not to own.
At the moment, I still have three empty shelves waiting to be filled, which is probably dangerous because every time I finish a book I love, I start convincing myself I need the physical copy too.
The soft purple color keeps the entire nook cohesive while adding personality at the same time. It turns storage into part of the decor instead of something you're trying to hide.
Cozy Purple Rug Layers Everything Together
A cozy rug changes everything in a reading nook.
This purple rug actually has a special story behind it.
When we moved into our new home, one of my Facebook followers gifted it to us. Originally, I planned to use it in the living room, but once I started putting together my office and reading nook space, I realized it looked perfect in there.
Sometimes decor pieces just find the room they're meant to be in.
The deep purple color fits perfectly with my cozy office vibe and ties everything together without feeling overwhelming.
Between the rug, blanket, chair texture, bookshelf, and backdrop, the entire space feels layered, warm, and inviting.
Don't Forget the Soft Lighting
Overhead lighting never creates the same cozy feeling as layered lighting.
My favorite lighting in the space is actually my Marie Gems neon sign. What originally started as branding and office decor ended up becoming part of the reading nook too.
The soft glow creates just enough light to make the space feel cozy without being harsh. At night, it gives the entire corner a warm atmosphere that feels relaxing after a busy day.
It's a good reminder that sometimes the things we buy for one purpose end up becoming part of something completely different.
Tips for Creating a Cozy Reading Nook at Home
One thing I've realized is that you don't need a giant room or expensive furniture to create a cozy reading nook. Most of us are just working with whatever corner we can claim in the middle of real life.
Sometimes it's a chair in the corner of the living room. Sometimes it's a small space in a bedroom. Sometimes it's just a spot where you can sit for a few minutes with a book and a cup of coffee before somebody starts calling your name. 😆
A few things that help:
- Stick to 2–3 main colors
- Layer different textures
- Use warm lighting instead of bright white bulbs
- Add personal touches that feel comforting
- Keep your favorite books nearby
- Don't overcomplicate the space
The best cozy spaces are the ones that actually feel lived in.

If you love cozy bookish accessories, here are a few items from my own collection:
The tumbler, hat, and Kindle case shown in these photos are all pieces I've made myself. One of the fun things about owning a custom product business is being able to create things that match my own interests and hobbies. Apparently that currently means dragons, books, purple decor, and Fourth Wing. 😂
Inspired by this cozy purple aesthetic? Here are some pieces that help recreate the vibe:
- Oversized corduroy lounge chair
- Purple sequin backdrop curtain
- Purple tree bookshelf
-
Deep purple area rug

Velvet tablecloth
Final Thoughts
Life gets busy. Kids need things. The house gets messy. Business deadlines pile up. Some days it feels like there are never enough hours to get everything done.
I think that's why I've started appreciating cozy spaces so much. They're a reminder to slow down for a little while, even if it's only long enough to read a chapter or enjoy a cup of coffee before jumping back into everything else.
Creating small spaces that feel calm and comforting can genuinely make home feel a little softer.
And honestly, every book lover deserves a cozy little escape of their own.
Even if your dream chair is still sitting in an online shopping cart waiting for "one day" like mine is. 😂
Save this for later if you're planning your dream cozy reading nook. 💜
